So, this year I've been planning on being a Ranger, from the book series Ranger's Apprentice.  Best books series on earth, read it.  I own all twelve books.  :3
But for this I would need a bow, quiver of twelve arrows (the books specificlly say that the quiver has exactly twelve arrows), saxe knife, throwing knife, double sheathe for both of those and a cloak.  I have the knives (I actually have six throwing knives), I would need to make the sheathe, and I would need to make the cloak.  And it's the 24th.  And Halloween is on the 31st.
So, for the matter of the double sheathe.  I need it because it is something that is unique to Rangers alone-it even says that mulitple times in the books.  But I don't exactly have one, considering how people rarely even sell good throwing knives.  Sooo, I have to make my own.
The sheathe should be leather, stiff strong leather.  But I don't know how to work leather.  So I have to figure it out and risk losing money on leather that I messed up on.  And I would have to reinforce the tip with metal.  Where would I even find metal that's the right shape?!  So I would have to shape it myself, which I of course have no clue how to do.  By the time I'm done with this, I'll be a master with crafting!!!
Now for the cloak.  Oh my.
It has to be perfect.  The description in the books it 'a grey and green mottled cloak, that seemed to shimmer in and out of focus.'  I've developed it even further.  Now in my mind the background color is a dull green (note: dull) with greenish-grey splots on it.  These splots are not tiny splots, but large-ish.  You can't tell where the green ends and the grey starts, it's a blended together.  The clasps is a thick strong cord, not a clasp because a metal clasp would reflect light and that would be bad.  The hood is deep and the cloak part goes past the ankles.  (It's very long.)  Burs just slid off, and the fabric is warm in the winter but cool in the summer.
But where to find fabric like that?  With the texture, warmth qualities, and colors!  Where, oh where would we find something like that?  And it would take forever to sew it!  I don't have forever, I have a week!  And school!  And homework!  And chores!
And the bow and arrows.  And the quiver.  I would prefer a traditional bow, arrows, and quiver, but they're so hard to find!  I mean the wooden kind.  I would love a draw weight of about twenty pounds.  And I would have to make the arrows.
So my costume had to change.  Now I'm going to be a modern-day-Ranger.
Meaning I will wear a green sweatshirt, green shirt, grey sweatpants (baggy of course), and my saxe knife.  Handing out candy.

Happy Halloween!  >:3
